M&T Bank Systems Programmer in Buffalo, New York
This role offers a hybrid work schedule; offering the flexibility to work remotely two days a week, while providing the opportunity for in-person collaboration.

The Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Operations Team engineers and supports all the foundational technology used across M&T Bank. We support two Data Centers, 15,000 Distributed platforms, 24 Mainframe Regions, a secure and reliable Network connecting all the technology across the bank footprint and process approximately 635,000 automated jobs per month. In addition to that foundational technology level, we own the operational support processes, monitoring and command center that provide a unified, well-managed technology response when issues arise. We deliver innovative, and compelling technology solutions, in partnership with our line of business CIOs, to enhance the internal customer experience that enables our business partners to deliver.
Overview:
Responsible for learning the base technology utilized by the team, including obtaining knowledge about operating systems, software systems, and related procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
Shadow team members as they complete project work and maintenance activity.
Attend internal and external technology training from classroom training, webinars, vendor conferences, and/or from more senior members of the team.
Shadow team with after hour support for project implementations or responding to incidents.
Read existing procedures specific to activities the staff is engaged in.
Participate in capacity planning discussions.
Shadow team in responding to and resolving incidents.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilities:
Install z/OS Program product via standard means, such as zOSMF, SMP/E
Apply system and program product maintenance as required
Debug and troubleshoot issues with program products and core z/OS components
Assist and support system shutdown and IPLs
Monitor system performance and tune system components as needed
Aid with the forecast of capacity needs
Participate in dayshift on-call rotation
Education and Experience Required:
Combined minimum of 3 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including experience working in a technical environment
JCL and SMP/E experience is a must
Experience reading and digesting technical information
Detail-oriented
Proven written and verbal communication skills
Experience providing updates and statuses
Education and Experience Preferred:
Associates’ degree in technology-related field
Minimum of 2 years’ related work experience
Python, REXX, SAS, CLIST experience is a plus
Certification or special training in Related Technologies

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $27.23 - $45.38 Hourly (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
